Fake Pokemon App Nets $10k in App Store (newsy-allvideos)

A fake Pokemon app approved by Apple made a small fortune before it was
removed from the App Store.

The app is called Pokemon Yellow and was developed by House of Anime. It sold
for 99 cents and is reported to have pulled in at least ten thousand dollars
on the App Store.

Tech blog Develop notes -- even bad user reviews didn't stop the app from
becoming popular.

**"Most user reviewers gave the lowest score possible and stated that the app
didn't work once purchased, but the Pokemon brand's prominence lifted the
title to second position in the App Store charts in the US."**

Games.com blogger Joe Osborne criticizes Apple for publishing the fake game --
which users report -- crashed at every turn beyond its home page.

**"This is quite the oversight by Apple's notorious approval process,
especially considering the fact that it's clear neither game was developed by
Game Freak or Pokemon Company nor published by Nintendo."**

But Ars Technica says-- it's not all Apple's fault-- realistically, an in-
depth copyright search for every submitted app would stretch app reviewers too
thin.
